While TikTok might be buzzing with the latest trend of ‘Bedtime Perfume,‘ this aromatic practice has deep roots, tracing back to icons like Marilyn Monroe, who famously wore Chanel N°5 to bed, and Italian Fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli with her scent ‘Sleeping’ designed for colorful, wild dreams. Now, the trend has resurfaced and views for the phrase ‘perfume for bedtime’ are skyrocketing on social media.

As someone who has been putting on bedtime perfume for years, this social media trend really speaks to me. I consider it: beauty sleep complete. Keep scrolling as I make a case for wearing perfume to sleep and if you don’t already spritz before you snooze, perhaps I may sway you!

The Bedtime Perfume Trend

The Art of Nighttime Fragrance

My nightly routine involves more than just skincare; it’s a sensory experience. I’ve always believed in the power of scent to soothe and transport the mind. Some of my perfumes are purchased specifically for their bedtime appeal. Depending on my mood, I might mist my pillow with a calming fragrance or dab a gentle scent on the top of my hand. As a side sleeper, I snuggle up with my hands near my face, allowing the subtle aroma to guide me into sweet dreams.

During the height of Covid, I legit sprayed Bond No 9 ‘The Scent of Peace’ on my blankets for months straight and I swear, that dreamy scent got me through several anxiety attacks. I still wear this scent when I need an instant boost of serenity.  And even though my nails were in desperate need of repair during the pandemic (KISS nails were all sold out!), I held on to my sanity with a few spritzes!

Why Embrace a Bedtime Perfume?

TikTok is certainly onto something. True, I have been doing this for years, there are some real benefits of bedtime perfumes. For starters, bedtime perfumes may seem to be totally unnecessary, but I beg to differ because the act of applying perfume to sleep certainly can help promote a deeper, more restful sleep. (Only if you love the fragrance, of course!) There are other reasons I love to snooze wearing my favorite scent, check them out below.

Relaxation: Soft, dreamy scents can help ease the mind, preparing you for a restful night’s sleep.

Sensory Pleasure: Indulging in a favorite fragrance can be a small, luxurious act of self-care.

Memory Trigger: Associating a specific scent with bedtime can signal to your body that it’s time to wind down.

Mood Enhancement: A comforting fragrance can lift your spirits and set a positive tone for the next day.
