For obsessed fashion lovers, May 6th is Christmas Day. That is the night of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual GALA. Hundreds of fashion designers, celebrities, professional athletes and the rest of the creme de la creme descend on the red carpeted steps of the Met to celebrate the museum’s newest Costume Exhibit. The dress code is always based around the exhibit’s theme and every guest comes ready to serve. This year’s theme is entitled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” The theme of the exhibit is that the Institute has re-worked these “Sleeping Beauty” dresses in their archive and will be presenting them in a new light. Upcycling anyone? Many of the dresses are made of the most delicate of materials and also have a nature-inspired element to them that encompasses land, sea and sky. What I love about the gala is that there is a dress code, but there is not. Everything is a matter of interpretation, and rules are meant to be broken.

The Met Gala red carpet makes the Oscar’s red carpet look like an ordinary rug. Every “name” is there, and the one-of-a-kind fashion is simply jaw-dropping. In my dreams I would be heading to the gala on Monday, but unfortunately, I will be on my couch so I scoured my favorite luxury shopping destinations and chose some of the dresses that I might wear if I was going. I matched them with KISS and imPRESS and Falscara manis and lashes for max head to toe impact.

Scroll down and check out my looks! Let me know what you think, and I hope they psych you up for the big event!

Look #1: Modern Goddess

This Georges Hobeika gown comes straight out of a fairy tale. Hobeika is an evening wear master and celebrities are always name-dropping him on the red carpet. I would float up the famous red stairs in this dreamy tulle and crystal dress in a shade of icy mint. For my mani look, I chose an almond-shaped glittery glam style that would perfectly accent my fairy gown. I finished with an ethereal yet impactful lash.

    1. Georges Hobeika Embellished Tulle Gown $14,090

    2. KISS Gel Fantasy Magnetic Nails in Backpacks $9.99
    3. KISS So Wispy Lashes in Pompadour $11.99

Look #2: In Bloom

It is May! The sun is shining and summer is on the horizon. The element of a re-awakening plays a big role in this year’s gala theme and there is nothing more symbolic than flowers in bloom. I chose this Oscar de la Renta for its stunning floral appliqué, vibrant fuchsia accents and of course, the coquette-inspired bow. Oscar de la Renta creations have always been synonymous with major event dressing for women of every age. I see this jubilant dress on everyone from a twenty-something ingenue to a Park Avenue doyenne. I paired it with a rose-adorned manicure and voluminous lashes.

  1. Oscar de la Renta Strapless bow-embellished appliquéd cotton-blend faille and tulle gown $8,290
  2. imPRESS Manicure in Everlasting Love $9.49
  3. imPRESS Press-On Falsies in Voluminous $10.99
Look #3: Black, White & a Bow!

Oftentimes I find myself thinking about what I would wear on the red carpet if I was going to the Oscars or the Emmys or the Met Gala. My thoughts always come back to wearing the color combination of black and white. It always feels fresh and modern and elegant. I came upon this dress by Lebanese designer Mônot and my jaw dropped. It gave me the chills. It was opulent, but restrained. Sophisticated, but so sexy. Subtle, but statement-making. A true stunner. To add more edge, I would rock a goth-inspired black manicure and a sweep of a lash. Perfection.

  1. Mônot Sequined bow-detail off-shoulder gown $2,678
  2. imPRESS Manicure in On the Road $7.99
  3. imPRESS Press-On Falsies in Elegant $10.99

Look #4: Pink Refreshment

I fell in love with this joyful, light-as-air ball gown when I found out it was crafted of cotton! Genius. This makes it not only feel extra fresh, but given its plunging neckline and tulip shade, it also feels completely girly. I would wear bright pink lip gloss, a high ponytail and Falscara’s natural glam lengthening wisps for a clean makeup look. My final touch would be a subtle, bisque pink mani.

  1. Monique Lhuillier Jacquard gown $6,151
  2. KISS Bare but Better in Bisque $8.99
  3. FALSCARA Lengthening Wisps Starter Kit $19.99

Look #5: Futuristic LBD

Though he passed away in 2022, Thierry Mugler will always be top of mind for his futuristic, sexy and creative take on women’s ready-to-wear and couture. His understanding of a woman’s body mixed with his artistic gifts still make his designs relevant today and worn by some of the most visible women in the world. I always resort to wearing black and this structured strapless black dress with a silver-tone vinyl panel is cool and avant-garde, yet so classic and sexy. I paired it with a similarly futuristic aqua chrome press-on mani and wet-look lashes.

  1. Mugler Signature corset maxi dress $2,465
  2. colorFX by imPRESS in Upgrade $10.99
  3. KISS Lash Drip in Drenched $4.99
