Well hello friend! I see you’re looking for some springtime trendiness and I’m just gonna say right now, put down your pastel eyeshadow donned makeup bag and just kick back, I’ve got you! And not only am I bringing fresh tips and hidden gems, but I’m also bringing the things to avoid! Especially if you’re like me… looking to squish that old high school one-hour makeup routine into a grown girl’s 15-minute next-level look! (See? I told you… I’ve got you!)
How to Get a Dewy Skin Glow
I think it goes without saying, glowy skin is a Springtime fave! Don’t we all just love the fresh, dewy kiss of sweet sunshine on our faces? (That sounded lovely didn’t it?) Well, it should feel lovely too, so when opting for that glow, don’t simply depend on your makeup bag to do all the heavy lifting.
Let’s start with the inside.
Make sure you’re hydrated! Listen, I’m not trying to be your mom and I know we all think we drink a ton of water but just keep it real with yourself. Sipping yourself halfway through your pastel-colored Stanley cup or that giant jug that gets left at every makeup or hair artist’s station (not mentioning any names here) isn’t really doing your skin justice. Make sure you’re actually getting some electrolytes in, an appropriate amount of salt, and all the jazz that adds up to hydration from the inside.
Hyaluronic acid is all the rage in skin care, but the rest of the body needs it too. Look for it in more places than just your new favorite influencer-endorsed skin plumping products. It’s available in pill and powder form too, so you can incorporate it into your daily supplement regimen.
Now let’s talk about the outside.
Dewy glow doesn’t have to mean looking like you used a slice of bacon to slap on your foundation instead of a beauty blender. A dewy skin glow really is all about looking like you’ve had a healthy, moisture rich kiss from a Miami day in May.
Try tinted moisturizers and sunscreens of course, but I dare you to see what you think about my favorite springtime glow technique, blending a dewy finish, full coverage, water-based foundation with a skincare infused SPF product. It creates a beautiful, moisture rich finish with a little more coverage than your average tinted products. And you’ll still have the benefit of skin-balancing pigment, the kind that helps cancel out the redness you may have on your nose or cheeks like me.
If you do decide to give this one a whirl but you still feel like you need to set it with a little powder, a super high quality translucent powder will be your friend. Just use a small amount with a large, fluffy powder brush to just pat and feather the powder through the areas that tend to get too shiny. If you’re in the market for a new, bougie translucent powder, the one that has become my luxury go-to for almost every client and every skin tone is the Royal Translucent Powder by JAFRA Cosmetics ($34).
Wanna use a setting spray to achieve a glow that doesn’t quit? Grab one that’s hydrating instead of mattifyiing. An absolute favorite pic of mine is the Hydrating Glow Cream Mist by Joah Beauty ($17.99). It keeps my clients looking like they’re fresh off the beach even though my studio is smack in the middle of the Arizona desert!
