As the temps dip, you can still get that sun-kissed glow.

Winter is the unsung season for bronzer. While it’s a staple in summer beauty routines, bronzer can also add a much-needed splash of warmth and glow to the complexion during the colder months. Here’s my tried-and-true tricks on how to master the art of winter bronzing, no bathing suit required!

1. Choose Your Shade Wisely

Winter bronzing is not about deepening your skin tone; it’s about enriching it with warmth. Opt for a bronzer one shade darker than your winter skin tone. Shimmery finishes can catch the light beautifully, but matte bronzers will provide a more natural, sun-kissed look.

Product Recommendation: For a matte finish, try the Hoola Bronzer by Benefit ($35). For a little shimmer, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer- Travel Size ($30) works wonders.

2. Prep Your Skin

Hydrated skin is paramount, especially in winter. Ensure your skin is well-moisturized before bronzer application. This will prevent the bronzer from clinging to dry patches and will help achieve a seamless finish.

Product Recommendation: JOAH Beauty Hydrating Glow Cream Mist ($17.99)  rejuvenates thirsty skin instantly.

3. Strategic Application

Unlike summer where you might dust bronzer everywhere the sun hits, in winter, focus on the high points of your face. Apply bronzer to the perimeters of your face, along the cheekbones, and down the bridge of the nose. The idea is to emulate the faint flush of a brisk winter walk.

Beauty Editor Tip: Use a fluffy brush for a light application and build up slowly. I love this Colourpop Large Powder Brush ($12).

4. Blend, Blend, Blend

The key to a natural glow is blending. Use a clean brush to diffuse any harsh lines for a soft, natural transition of color.

5. Balance with Blush and Highlighter

To give depth and dimension, follow up with a touch of blush on the apples of the cheeks and a dab of highlighter on the cheekbones, brow bones, and cupid’s bow.

Beauty Editor Trick: Mix a bit of liquid highlighter with your moisturizer for an all-over luminous base.

6. Keep it Cohesive

Ensure your bronzer complements your overall makeup look. Pair it with neutral eyeshadows and a nude or berry lip for a balanced winter glow.

Product Picks: NARS Mini Orgasm Blush ($17) for a healthy flush and BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector for a subtle highlight.

7. Don’t Forget Your Body

If your décolletage or shoulders are on display, lightly dust them with the same bronzer for a cohesive glow.

Beauty Editor Secret: Apply a thin layer of body lotion before your bronzer to help it adhere better and last longer. I love Summer Fridays Summer Silk Nourishing Body Lotion ($28)

8. Set It and Forget It

Lock in your look with a setting spray that will keep your makeup in place all day. Look for hydrating formulas that will refresh your skin and maintain that glow.

Try: Urban Decay All Nighter Vitamin C Hydrating Setting Spray ($36). It has a light citrus scent, is and leaves my skin with a radiant finish.

By following these tips and incorporating some of these products into your routine, you can achieve a radiant, winter-appropriate bronzed look that defies the dreary cold days. Remember, the goal is a subtle warmth that looks like you’ve just returned from a winter ski resort, not a summer beach vacation. Happy bronzing!
