When it comes to beauty, Jenny Patinkin is more than just a makeup artist—she’s a true visionary. Known for her luxurious yet eco-conscious approach, Jenny has redefined what it means to be chic and sustainable in the beauty world. As the founder of Jenny Patinkin Eco-Luxe Beauty Tools, she’s brought her philosophy of “Lazy Perfection” to life, offering products that blend elegance, ease, and environmental responsibility. But Jenny’s journey to the top didn’t happen overnight.

Ahead, Jenny shares her insights on balancing her dual roles as a makeup artist and brand founder, the inspiration behind her eco-luxe tools, and the future of beauty in a world increasingly focused on sustainability. Whether you’re a beauty lover or an aspiring entrepreneur, Jenny’s story is sure to inspire and enlighten.

What inspired you to create Jenny Patinkin Eco-Luxe Beauty Tool , and how do they reflect your philosophy on beauty and sustainability?

I had a line of Japanese produced makeup brushes back in 2012, but they were made with natural animal hair. It was a safari vacation to Kenya in 2018 that really kicked me into wanting to make only vegan products that are sustainably produced. The Lion King “circle of life” thing is so real, and the landscape there was so vast and beautiful, I knew that I had to do all I could to be a more responsible citizen of the planet. We make products that prove you don’t have to sacrifice luxury, quality or functionality in order to be earth aware.

How do you balance your work as a makeup artist with your role as a founder of a beauty brand? What are some of the unique challenges and rewards you’ve encountered in this dual role?

The time it takes to do both is obviously a challenge, so I have to be very selective now with the artistry bookings I take. I used to do a lot of celebrity clients who came through Chicago, and I still do some, but those bookings can be very unpredictable which is obviously not an ideal way to plan your day if you need to be productive. I do love to meet with private clients once a month or so for consultations to help them overhaul their makeup routine and put together their kit, and I get a lot of feedback in those appointments about what customers want and need. It’s a handy built-in focus group that helps to inform what I design.

Sustainability is a key aspect of your brand. Can you share some insights into how you ensure your beauty tools are both luxurious and environmentally friendly?

We are always looking to push the limits of innovation in our product development and actively seek out manufacturers who are utilizing new technologies to source and produce in more responsible ways. We use quite a lot of upcycled industrial food waste, for example, and also try to use as many post-consumer or post-industrial recycled materials as we can. Once we have sourced the raw ingredients, we push our suppliers to ensure that they feel luxurious and work beautifully. We are always striving to be at the intersection of luxury, sustainability and functionality.

How has your extensive experience as a makeup artist influenced the design and functionality of your beauty tools? Are there any specific tools that were directly inspired by your work with clients?

My makeup philosophy and aesthetic is “lazy perfection” which was also the name of the beauty book I wrote. I like to keep things simple, so that even if a particular tool isn’t instinctive for the customer to use, it’s at least not intimidating. Small things like the weight and balance of our makeup brush handles can help a customer feel more confident about using them, or making sure size and shape of the brush head isn’t too technical or confusing. We also print the name of what a brush’s intended use is right on the handle because a brush that says #A407 doesn’t mean anything to the everyday consumer. We just try to take small steps to make our collection understandable and friendly.

What are your future plans for Jenny Patinkin Eco-Luxe Beauty Tools? Are there any upcoming products or innovations that you’re particularly excited about?

I love a good makeup brush kit and we have several new ones that are launching this year. I love to pre-bundle brush collections for our customers so that they don’t have the stress of trying to navigate thousands of options. I use my perspective as a pro artist and as a believer in lazy perfection to put together kits that will make everyone happy. We have our first pink makeup brush collection coming out this year and it’s so, so pretty – I can’t wait for people to see it.
